4 februari: Zero Tolerance to FGM

In het kader van de Internationale Dag van Zero Tolerantie Tegen Vrouwelijke
Genitale Verminking (VGV) 6 februari organiseert het Platform 6 februari op
vrijdag 4 februari een landelijke bijeenkomst in het Kinderrechtenhuis in Leiden.
Het thema van de dag is samenwerken, want alleen samen staan we sterk!

Samenwerking met strategische bondgenoten zoals de overheid, het parlement , de
maatschappij, medische professionals, leraren, maatschappelijk werkers en bovenal
religieuze leiders en sleutelfiguren uit de gemeenschap en de gemeenschappen zelf
waar VGV wordt toegepast, zijn hierbij onmisbaar. Pas dan zijn we echt in staat om
Vrouwelijke Genitale Verminking een halt toe te roepen!

Daarom komen op vrijdag 4 februari al deze belangrijke actoren in de strijd tegen
VGV samen om te discussiëren over de bestrijding van deze ernstige vorm van kindermishandeling. Op deze dag wordt ook het inventarisatierapport ‘Change, we make it together’ gepresenteerd door Vluchtelingen-Organisaties Nederland (VON).

VON heeft zich met het project ‘Het Zwijgen is Voorbij’ en het bijbehorende rapport
‘Change, we make it together’ gericht op 5 gemeenschappen uit Soedan, Ethiopië,
Somalië, Eritrea en Liberia. Hierbij is gekeken naar de aanwezigheid van VGV binnen deze groepen in Nederland en specifiek naar de risicofactor voor meisjes uit deze landen. In hoeverre worden zij geconfronteerd met het risico verminkt te worden?

Doel daarbij is de gemeenschap verantwoordelijk en aanspreekbaar te maken voor
de daden die in naam van de gemeenschap, familie, traditie en cultuur plaatsvinden.
GGD Nederland brengt u op de hoogte van de laatste ontwikkelingen in de preventieve aanpak van VGV binnen de Jeugdgezondheidszorg. En enkele Togolezen vertellen over de campagne die zij in Togo gevoerd hebben.

Vrijdag 4 februari staat in het teken van het vergroten van het bewustzijn rondom
VGV en van de impact die het heeft op meisjes, vrouwen en de hele familie. Kom
op vrijdag 4 februari naar het Kinderrechtenhuis in Leiden, want uw aanwezigheid en steun is van groot belang.
